Together with the Earnshaw Oral Health Foundation, led by dentist Dr Jason Earnshaw, a pioneering project is to be launched in Eswatini, one of the poorest countries in the world. The aim is to build a modern dental clinic with an attached training centre.

The clinic will attract patients from near and far with its high-quality treatment concepts and state-of-the-art equipment. The income from the latest tooth preservation treatments will not only secure the livelihood of the dental team but also enable free access to dental care for the poorest sections of the population.

A central component of the project is a nationwide prevention and prophylaxis programme that reaches all schools in Eswatini. In addition, weekly mobile missions are planned from the existing Mercy Air Switzerland base to provide acute pain treatment and gradually make the entire spectrum of dentistry accessible.

In addition, statistics on oral health are being collected in order to develop long-term strategies together with the government to combat the serious consequences of poor oral hygiene.

The project focuses on sustainability and training: dentists, dental hygienists and assistants are trained locally to improve dental care in the long term. In addition, European and Swiss partner companies are involved, contributing their expertise and innovative technologies – a real win-win situation for all involved.

On our side, the project is supported on a voluntary basis by Dr. Chris Hasler, a dentist from Thun, who contributes significantly to its successful implementation with his expertise, commitment and organisation of the infrastructure.

This project is creating a new model for modern, socially responsible dentistry in Eswatini, combining economic viability with social commitment and enabling people to enjoy a healthier future.
